How To Size and Format Media

Your program messages may contain static images, audio files or MP4 video content. Adding these elements often drives better engagement and a more enjoyable experience for you participant.

When incorporating media in your program messages, refer to the information below to ensure sizing and formats are correct.

Size and Format Guide:

How do different sizes appear when delivered to a phone?

Below are examples of how each photo dimension will deliver on a smartphone. The square media is the only size that will not be trimmed on the sides when delivered. Once the user clicks on the image they'll be able to view the full size sent. This also applies to video content.

Difference between 'Send As File' and 'Send as Link'

Depending on the size of your message or size of the media in your message there are two ways it can be delivered to your participants.

  1. SEND AS FILE: This means the content of your message will be delivered directly to the participants phone without leaving the messaging platform.
  2. SEND AS LINK: This means you're likely sending a larger file so your message will be delivered with an additional link that opens your media in your participant's phone browser.

How To Send a GIF:

Short GIFs can be great for replies where you want to provide affirmation and additional encouragement to the participant. For phone network and SMS/WhatsApp compatibility, GIFs must be converted into MP4.

Converting your GIF to MP4:

  • Find a GIF to MP4 converter tool (One that we recommend is veed.io; not only can it convert your GIFs to MP4, but it is also an online GIF maker where you can create animated GIFs from videos.)
  •  You can also Google 'GIF to MP4 converter' and find other option
  • Once you have converted the file to an MP4 make sure it is under 500 KB
  • Next add your media as an attachment in any messages within your program!
